While Spring cleaning might not be the thing you or your pet most look forward to, it feels amazing when it’s done! Moving from Winter to Spring, freshening up your home, don’t forget about your pet. As you do your Spring clean-out at home, it’s the perfect time to refresh everything for your pet too!
Here are our top 7 tips for Spring cleaning with Pets.
1 - Tame the toy box
Holding onto that teddy because it's cute but is missing an ear and a leg? Stop being sentimental and throw it out!
2 - Wash up those water bowls
Your pets bowls should be washed everyday, just like you wash your own plates and dishes. If your pets bowls show signs of wear and tear, it's time for a new one. Stainless steel or ceramic are the best type. Avoid plastic as over time, they can accumulate grooves that are breeding grounds for germs and parasites!
3 - Sift through the supplies
Check your pets food, treats and meds. The best before dates may have slipped by without you realising, time flies!
4 - Blitz beds
We know your pet will love the comforting smell of its bed, but if it hasn’t been washed all of winter and let's face it no one wants to prize their pup away from their cosy bed in the cold months to wash it, it's probably time to do so. Pop it in the washing machine if it's small enough or for those bigger beds, fill the bath up and add a small amount of detergent then let it dry outside in the sun.
5 - Fresh Air
When you've been cooped up all winter your home is bound to have a lingering pet odour even with the deepest of cleaning. Get your windows open wide and invest in some air purifiers specifically designed to remove pet hair and odours from the air.
6 - Collar checks
Give your pets collars and leashes a once over. If they look frayed or like they may break, invest in some new gear. If they still have some life left in them, give them a good, long soak in some warm water mixed with pet shampoo. Rinse them off and hang to dry.
7 - Pet hair be gone..
Does your pet shed? To get rid of stubborn pet hair, get the hoover out. This is the quickest and easiest way to get the hair out of your carpet and off of your furniture. Go over the areas twice and try alternative directions. For hardwood floors use a dry microfibre mop.
We know that Spring cleaning can be a tedious and time consuming task so remember to take some time out and get outside with your pets. You’ll both enjoy the leg stretches and fresh air!
